The challenges of meeting the nutritional needs of all the patients in Cypress Health Region facilities in Swift Current is being made easier by the utilization of a new, state-of-the-art meal distribution system.
Since establishing a centralized kitchen in the new Cypress Regional Hospital, all the food for city healthcare facilities is produced in one location. They are now challenged with making a series of adjustments to better utilize their meal re-heating equipment and meeting the varying dietary needs of their patients.
"There are challenges. It's not a foolproof system," explained Lorilee Vallis, National Operations and Training Specialist for Burlodge. "It's not, anybody can come in and use, it does take some skill, some knowledge, some training, constant monitoring from the supervisory team as well as the management team."
The kitchen prepares the hot meals, which are 'tempered' down to a refrigeration state, then re-thermed in an 'oven', which keeps the food hot while it is distributed to the various healthcare facilities.
